Be OUTSIDE in 10. Let’s hang

Love u, mean it

You’ve got to be kidding me.

I reluctantly slide out of my warm, cozy, doctor prescribed bed and throw my hair in the worlds messiest bun and head downstairs to wait on Courtney. Though before I leave my room I fetch the pain meds I got earlier today from under my bed and take two. I’m not sure if I’m trying to medicate my physical pain or the pain I’m about to endure of explaining everything to my best friend.

When I get outside Courtney is nowhere to be found so I pull up one of the patio chairs and wait though I don’t have to wait long for a visitor. Only it’s not Courtney who has jumped up onto the fence separating our yard from the alley, and it’s definitely not Courtney playing trapeze artist, balancing on the fence before backflipping into the yard. When he whips his shaggy, dark hair out of his eyes I automatically know it’s Willard. And I don’t know if I’m happy or pissed that Courtney would pull something like this. Just as I’m finding her name in my contacts to call her and yell at her for lying to me, she comes strutting around from behind the shed. Her big smile lit up by the moon, she’s proud of herself.

“Well hey there friend! Fancy running into you here!” She squeals as she runs up to hug me. I bring my finger up to my lips, reminding her to keep quiet because my mom is asleep. “Oh, right!” She says, just a smidge quieter than before. “You ready?”

“Ready? Ready for what?”

“To hang.”

“I’m not hanging.” To further prove that I’m not in the mood to ‘hang’, I plop myself back down into the patio chair.

“Oh yes you are! You haven’t talked to me at all today! And I brought you a surprise so you owe me!”

I look at Will who is obviously enjoying our little spat, his grin giving him away, then direct my attention back at Courtney. “Is Will supposed to be my surprise?”

“Ouch!” Will cringes and pulls away from the group. “Words hurt, you know!”

“Oh, I promise you’ll be fine.” My annoyance not bothering to hide itself.

“And I promise you have no choice.” Courtney grabs my arm and takes off running, practically dragging me out of the yard, into the alley, and down the road. Once we’ve gotten about half a block from my house I try to pull her to a stop but she just lets go and leaves me standing in the middle of the street, alone, as her and Will take off jogging and laughing in the starlight.

Once I finally decide - what the hell? and catch up to them, they’re already in mid-scheme, plotting what we should do with our moonlit freedom.

“Can we steal street signs?” Courtney’s practically bouncing with excitement at her brilliant idea.

“Are you serious?” Will scrunches his face up, revealing a previously unknown snaggle tooth. “I did that when I
